Pain Reprocessing Therapy

Chronic pain is not "all in your head" -but the brain and nervous system play a powerful role in how pain is learned, amplified and healed.

As a chronic pain survivor, I experienced years of debilitating symptoms, including back and neck pain and intense pain that radiated into my face and jaw muscles.  I bounced from one doctor to the next trying to find relief.  I was told by a spine doctor that surgery was my best option.  Somewhere along the way, I discovered the work of John Sarno and started to learn more about the connection between stress and amplified pain.  I'm so grateful that I listened to my gut and took the road less traveled.

Healing from chronic pain often requires more than talking about symptoms or understanding them intellectually.
Chronic pain and nervous system patterns are stored not only in conscious thought, but in the body, emotions, conditioned fear responses and the unconscious mind.

Through somatic therapy, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, visualization, hypnosis, parts work and nervous system regulation, we work with the deeper processes that drive pain and stress patterns- helping the brain and body learn safety again.

What is Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)? It is an evidence-based psychological approach to treating chronic pain and other mind-body symptoms.  In many chronic pain conditions, the brain and nervous system can become stuck in a cycle of danger and pain signaling- even after the original injury has healed.

PRT helps people:
  • reduce fear around pain
  • retrain the brain's interpretation of sensations
  • calm the nervous system
  • break conditioned pain pathways
  • reconnect with safety in the body
